News Release: Saegis announces new CEO
OTTAWA, March 29, 2018 — The Board of Directors of Saegis, a provider of Canadian healthcare safety and practice management solutions, announced today that Dave Rylett has been appointed CEO, effective March 26. Saegis is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) that delivers programs and services that extend beyond the CMPA’s current offerings and contribute to safer and more sustainable healthcare in Canada. Saegis was launched in August 2017 and Mr. Rylett is Saegis’ inaugural CEO.
Mr. Rylett has over 30 years of healthcare experience, the majority of which was spent with Novartis Pharma, in increasingly senior roles in Canada, Switzerland, and Japan. During this time, he expanded the number of patients who benefit from various therapies through the development of effective business strategies, and focused on excellence in execution of functional operations while building high performing individuals, teams, and cultures.
“I believe Mr. Rylett will be a great fit with both the Saegis team and our broader CMPA family,” said Dr. Hartley Stern, CEO of the CMPA and Chair of the Saegis Board of Directors. “He comes to us with extensive experience in building effective organizations, and he clearly has the expertise to lead Saegis in its mission to advance patient safety and practice management.”
“Saegis fills an unmet need to support healthcare professionals and organizations in delivering safe and effective care to Canadians,” said Mr. Rylett. “Our vision is that Saegis becomes a key partner to physicians, healthcare teams, clinics and hospitals through high quality, innovative and impactful solutions and services.”
Mr. Rylett’s most recent role before moving back to Canada and joining Saegis was as President, Alcon Pharma KK in Tokyo, where he successfully merged two business units to launch a new ophthalmology company.
Mr. Rylett is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (BSc, MSc – both in statistics) and of McGill University (MBA).
